Description of Emile Henry Le Potier 12-Inch Pie Plate with Tea Towel, Bordeaux RedMarcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects. This large, 12-inch-diameter pie plate makes a holiday pumpkin pie or a sweet fruit crisp to feed about 10 to 12--it's ideal for serving dessert to a bigger group of guests. The plate is made from local clay in Marcigny, France, using a pottery tradition that has been alive since 1850. The clay is an excellent material for retaining heat, so your fresh-baked desserts stay warm as you gather guests to the table. Consistent with the Le Potier pattern, this baking dish has a beautiful, consistent color; ridged sides; and fluted edges resembling a pie crust. Using Emile Henry's exclusive Céradon process, the dish is coated with a beautiful, smooth and shiny lead-free glaze and then fired at high temperatures, producing a finish so hard that it will not crack, craze, or discolor. This plate also has a high thermal resistance, so it can safely go from freezer to oven without damaging, and is safe for the microwave, dishwasher, and broiler. As an additional touch, this plate comes with an 100-percent woven cotton dish towel for removing hot pies from the oven or wiping off floury hands during dessert preparation. The pairing of the towel and dish make this an excellent gift for a bridal shower or avid baker. All of the pottery in Emile Henry's Le Potier line is covered by a three-year warranty against defects. --Cristina Vaamonde
